Sara donati series in order6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() More like Donati used the 1992 film as an inspiration, a spring board of sorts. But here we go: This novel is often mistakenly thought of as a 'sequel' to the 1992 movie The Last of the Mohicans but it really is not. ![]() Spanning over 800 pages, it's definitely hard to write a summary. We both read Sara Donati's Into the Wilderness around the same time (Camille has the added treat of having read the sequel, Dawn on a Distant Shore, already for you girls) and thought it terrible, indeed, outrageous, that this book hasn't been tossed around more in Romancelandia before this through word of mouth, as it's been out since 1999! Granted this novel is shelved in fiction rather than romance, but it's undoubtedly romantic, promise. This is modeled after "conversational/dueling reviews" on Dear Author. So today we're doing something a little different. Hey everyone, this is envyious aka Camille and dreamilywistful aka Vivian. ![]() Genre/Historical Period: 1700s Post-Revolutionary New England ![]() Harvest of Rubies by Tessa Afshar6/7/2023 ![]() Afshar's story challenges misconceptions about harem life and the roles of ancient women while introducing readers to a lovable heroine whose good heart wins out over bumbling ways to prove a boon to others, too. ![]() ![]() But Sarah finds wisdom and strength in the texts and traditions of her people, and knits together an unconventional community of support. Tessa Afshar never fails to amaze me with her ability to grab me by the heart with her stories. When she botches her wedding, and is abandoned to a rural estate, it would seem that all is lost. Sarah becomes a professional scribe and wins the affections of the queen only to find herself bound to marry a man she doesn't know and forced to give up the job that she loves. The prophet Nehemiah's cousin can speak numerous languages, keep complex accounts, write on rolls of parchment and tablets of clay, and solve great mysteries. In this latest by Afshar (Pearl in the Sand), the Bible's ancient Near Eastern context is the setting for an engaging story of pluck, friendship, and faith. Intense, evocative, and laced with intricate historical details that bring the past to life, An Uncommon Woman will transport you to the picturesque and dangerous western Virginia mountains of 1770.Ĭhristy Award-winning author, Laura Frantz, is passionate about all things historical, particularly the 18th-century, and writes her manuscripts in longhand first. But when circumstances force Clay’s hand - and heart - the stage is set for one very private and one very public reckoning. Raised by Lenape Indians, he returns a hero from the French and Indian War to the fort that bears his name, bringing with him Tessa’s long-lost friend, Keturah, who disappeared from the settlement years earlier.ĭetermined to avoid any romantic entanglements as fort commander, Clay remains aloof whenever he encounters the lovely Tessa. Quiet and courageous, Clay Tygart is not your typical 18th-century man. Born and bred on the western Virginia frontier along with her five brothers, she is a force to be reckoned with. Unflinching and plainspoken, Tessa Swan is not your typical 18th-century woman. ![]() Call me by your name by andré aciman6/6/2023 ![]() ![]() I have given it 3 stars as, although it was well-written I did struggle with it at times. And, well, I am still undecided whether that was a mistake and I should have just watched the film (I haven’t yet) as it was an odd one and I am still unsure what I thought about it. It was an adaptation of the book of the same name by André Aciman, and I really, really want to watch the film but I also really, really wanted to read the book (the eternal bookworm conundrum). The movie, Call Me By Your Name was released in 2017, starred Arnie Hammer and Timothée Chelemet and was Oscar nominated. It is an instant classic and one of the great love stories of our time. Recklessly, the two verge toward the one thing both fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. ![]() Each is unprepared for the consequences of their attraction, when, during the restless summer weeks, unrelenting currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion and test the charged ground between them. ![]() Andre Aciman’s Call Me by Your Name is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents’ cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. ![]() ![]() ![]() In this audiobook, we will explore his life, both personal and professional, to find out more about how Kaiser Wilhelm II became the last German emperor.
